Bush, Jones, Page Call for Reinstatement of COVID-19 State of Emergency in Missouri

Bush, Jones, Page Call for Reinstatement of COVID-19 State of Emergency in Missouri

December 31, 2021

ST. LOUIS, MO — On the eve of the third year of the global COVID-19 pandemic, Congresswoman Cori Bush (MO-01), City of St. Louis Mayor Tishaura O. Jones, and St. Louis County Executive Dr. Sam Page issued the following statement after Governor Mike Parson announced he will allow Missouri’s COVID-19 state of emergency to expire tonight, December 31, 2021, at midnight:

“In the same week that Missouri shattered its previous COVID-19 positive case record, and as health care workers across the state are being pushed to the brink — facing staff shortages and rising hospitalizations — Governor Parson is weakening one of the few ways his administration was helping to save lives by providing our hospital systems with the flexibility they need to manage this crisis. We stand with our health care workers who have been working overtime to keep Missourians safe and healthy throughout this pandemic. We strongly urge Governor Parson to follow the guidance of health providers and hospital leaders by extending the state of emergency to ensure our hospital systems receive the support and flexibility they need.”
